Maths
In Gillas Lane Primary Academy we believe that mathematics is a tool required for everyday life and we endeavour to ensure that children develop a healthy and enthusiastic attitude towards the subject. We aim to provide a maths curriculum which offers pupils an opportunity to develop fluency through varied and frequent practice, explain and reason and apply their maths skills to solve problems.
In Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils are provided with a daily mathematical lesson, lasting one hour. Within these lessons, there is a good balance between whole class work, group teaching/work and individual work. A wide range of practical resources are used daily to ensure children develop a secure understanding of the skill being taught.
In Early Years, the maths curriculum is taught throughout the school day through practical activities.
Where possible, links will also be made to mathematics within other subjects so pupils can develop and apply their mathematical skills across the curriculum.
