Homework at Gillas Lane

We have three main homework activities here at Gillas Lane; home reading, online learning and class activities. At the end of each half term, we award our  Homework Heroes - these are awarded to children who have taken a grip of their own learning outside of school completed homework to a high standard.

Do you have what it takes to become a Homework Hero?

Home Reading - Everybody Every Night!

We know how important reading is in order to be sure our children can be as successful as possible and that is why our home reading approach is so high profile across school. It is called Everybody Every Night - this is because we expect all of our children to read at home every night. As our children will tell you, it's not some of the people some of the time, it's everybody every night!

Each half term we set an EBEN challenge and children who read at home every night and get their book signed, receive a special EBEN Award. If you want an EBEN prize, you know what to do!

Online Learning

Lexia, RMEasimaths and Times Table Rock Stars are our online learning platforms that we encourage our KS2 children to use.

Lexia - Identified children will have a Lexia account and we ask that they do 60 minutes over the week. Lexia is an EEF research proven programme that accelerates the development of literacy skills, helping children to make the shift from learning to read, to reading to learn.

RMEasimaths - All children in KS2 have an RMEasimaths account. This programme helps children make confident progress in maths, embedding core maths skills in a safe, fun and engaging way. Online activities are personalised as data is collected on each child; this means that the difficulty levels are cleverly and automatically adjusted to suit the individual needs of each child.

Times Table Rock Stars - All children in KS2 have a TTRS log in. This engaging maths programme boosts children's factual fluency and improves recall in multiplication and division.
