Homework at Gillas Lane

We have three main homework activities here at Gillas Lane; home reading, online learning and class activities. At the end of each half term, we award our  Homework Heroes - these are awarded to children who have taken a grip of their own learning outside of school and completed homework to a high standard.

Do you have what it takes to become a Homework Hero?

Home Reading - Everybody Every Night!

We know how important reading is in order to be sure our children can be as successful as possible and that is why our home reading approach is so high profile across school. It is called Everybody Every Night - this is because we expect all of our children to read at home every night. As our children will tell you, it's not some of the people some of the time, it's everybody every night!

Each half term we set an EBEN challenge and children who read at home every night and get their book signed, receive a special EBEN Award. If you want an EBEN prize, you know what to do!

Online Learning

Reading Plus and Times Table Rock Stars are our online learning platforms that we encourage our KS2 children to use.

Key Stage 1 children can access Oxford Owl Online and NumBots.

Numbots - Our Key Stage 1 children develop their quick recall of maths facts using the NumBots programme. Children can access this both in school and at home.

Oxford Owl Online - Supporting our Read Write Inc. Phonics programme, Oxford Owl Online allows children to access texts and games at home to support their reading development.

Times Table Rock Stars - All children in KS2 have a TTRS log in. This engaging maths programme boosts children's factual fluency and improves recall in multiplication and division.

Reading Plus - Our Year 5 and 6 children access Reading Plus to support their reading fluency and comprehension. Children access the programme for 30 minutes, 3 times a week in school and can access the programme at home too.

Class Activities

At the beginning of every half term, class teachers share a menu of homework activities on Class Dojo. Children can select which activities they would like to do and we encourage children to share their completed activities with staff in school.

There are ideas for English, Maths, Science and the non-core curriculum.

Our families never have to worry about losing a sheet of homework as they are all on Class Dojo and can be accessed easily.
