Inspirational Visitors
At Gillas Lane, we have welcomed real-world role models into our school. These visitors help to raise aspirations and allow pupils to understand how learning links to future goals and ambitions.
Heptathlete Lucy Turner: Lucy recently coached the children through a sponsored fitness circuit. The children showed incredible determination and resilience throughout every exercise and our amazing families helped us raise £1,457! We received a school voucher from this and used it to purchase brand new sports equipment to ensure our children continue to enjoy high quality PE sessions.
Career Carousel: Miss Carpenter annually arranges our Career Carousel inviting a range of motivational visitors in to share their words of wisdom about their career path. A chance for our oldest children to get hands on and experience a range of potential jobs. Over recent years we have welcomed a radio DJ, a microbiologist and a civil engineer whose company was involved in the building of the Harry Potter set! Inspirational indeed!
Musicians: Being a talented singer herself, Mrs Wharton has a lot of musical friends who she invites to school to perform for us. Busker and cruise ship performer, Lewis, had us all up dancing and singing along to the well-known songs he played on his guitar!
Community Heroes: We invite a range of visitors into school to help us learn about specific topics. Fire fighters, vets, dentists and many more have worked with our Gillas children to support their learning across the curriculum.
