Outdoor Learning and Environmental Enrichment

We recognise the importance of pupils developing their knowledge of the natural world around them. We aim to instil respect for the environment and a strong sense of environmental responsibility.

Our pupils benefit from purposeful outdoor learning experiences:

Tiny Forest: Our children and families have worked with Earth Watch to plant our very own Tiny Forest on our school field. We can’t wait to see all 600 trees and shrubs grow and blossom with our Gillas children!

Forest School: Mr Tate works hard keeping on top of our on-site Forest School. We even have our very own pond and fish up there! Classes use this space to engage in outdoor learning – we love to get our waterproofs and wellies on and get stuck right in!

Gardening: Mr Hepple and his gardening club, Gillas Growers, take great pride in looking after our Gillas garden. We have a range of fruit, vegetables and wildflowers growing on our field. Our edible playground is the centre piece of our outdoor space and it blooms all year round! Take a look at our 'Clubs & Activities' tab to find out more.

Outdoor Learning: Teachers aim to use our fantastic outdoor space as much as they can to enhance the children’s learning through practical activities. From science investigations to geographical fieldwork, our children really use our diverse school site to their advantage!
